As a performing artist for 10 years, I gained a lot of experience
working with makeup and learning to adjust it for different mediums
(i.e. photography, video, etc.). Almost more valuable than this,
however, is that I learned how to convey a certain feeling, look or
emotion, without the use of words.
Whether through a certain makeup
application or hair style, the costume or clothing, there is a certain
theatrical element involved in this process. I believe this is where my
true talent lies. I also have a first hand understanding of working
with performers. Even people who are not in the arts, are in a way
performing when they are in front of a camera.
Understanding the
psychology involved in this helps me to relate to the person in my chair
in a way that is calming and relaxing for them, which ultimately makes
their experience -- whether it be in front of a camera, on a stage, or
in front of all their friends and family on their wedding day -- a more
pleasant and relaxed one.
